Inside Habitat for Humanity’s hurricane-ready homes in Florida

BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Lt. Gov. Jay Collins toured Windhorst Commons, a new hurricane-fortified Habitat for Humanity neighborhood in Brandon, being built to support veterans and working families.

The visit comes as Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough is asking state lawmakers to invest nearly $1 million during the 2026 legislative session to expand affordable housing opportunities, with priority given to veterans, first responders, essential workers, and families impacted by last year’s hurricanes.
