Fishback calls on Florida National Guard to end public homelessness; advocate disagrees

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — James Fishback is the 30-year-old longshot Republican candidate running for governor. He is known for taking hard stances on several issues including immigration and homelessness.

“On day one, if you elect me your governor, I will deploy the Florida National Guard to our major cities to clean up our downtowns to secure our streets,” Fishback said.

The candidate released a message on social media about battling concerns over camping and sleeping in public areas. He’s aiming to go a step further on enforcing a 2024 state law that bans sleeping and camping in parks and on sidewalks.
