Coast Guard identifies kayaker missing near Honeymoon Island

DUNEDIN, Fla. (WFLA) — The U.S. Coast Guard has identified a kayaker who went missing near Honeymoon Island Sunday evening.

According to the Coast Guard, the search began after the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reported that kayakers were in distress near Honeymoon Island State Park at about 6 p.m. that day.

Dunedin Fire Rescue said the water rescue involved three individuals. Two of them were saved from the water, but the third, Elias Guillermo Lara Vargas, 18, is still missing.
