St. Pete to receive FEMA reimbursement for Tropicana Field, sparking debate among neighbors

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A multi-million dollar reimbursement from FEMA is sparking debate among residents in St. Petersburg.

FEMA recently announced the $16.5 million loan repayment for the city to use for Tropicana Field. While some wonder what will happen to the remodeled stadium if, and when, the Rays leave St. Petersburg, others wonder why the money didn’t go to the residents themselves.

“Obviously, citizens should get some of that FEMA money, but, you know, it’s just like during Covid when those payments went to the people who are politically connected or, you know, understood the law, applied for all these loans for small businesses when they really didn’t need the money,” Brandon McKean told News Channel 8…
