The Global Love Project hosts free community art celebration for 4th anniversary

The Global Love Project has been delivering color and positivity to the streets of St. Pete since 2022. This Sunday, February 22, the arts initiative is hosting a free community celebration in honor of its 4th anniversary from 9-11 am.

Hosted at the Roundabout Sunburst in the EDGE District (1111 Central Ave), the free, open-to-all gathering invites the community to come together through art, connection, and “a shared vision for a more peaceful and united city.” The gathering includes community chalking around the roundabout and an invitation for nonprofits, artists, and businesses to collaborate on a larger International Day of Peace celebration planned for September 21.

Whether or not you’ve seen The Global Love Project in action, you’ve almost certainly walked by, or even on, their work. Founder and artist Justin Lucci regularly spreads his messages of love and inspiration throughout the city’s streets and sidewalks, using chalk to create temporary works of art. If you walked through Localtopia last weekend, you likely saw him working on his annual piece on 3rd Street and 2nd Avenue North, surrounded by adults and kids who grab the chalk and join the fun.

“For me, this project has always been about love in action,” said Lucci. “It’s about creating a space where anyone can show up exactly as they are and leave feeling more connected. Now we’re expanding that energy by aligning with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals and bringing together the organizations already doing incredible work in our city.”…
