Guilty of manslaughter: Verdict reached in Pinellas County tire iron attack

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A jury reached a verdict for the second defendant in a deadly tire iron beating that happened in 2022. Savonne Morrison was found guilty of manslaughter instead of the first-degree murder charge he was facing.

Morrison smiled as the judge read the jury’s verdict for the four charges he was facing. He was found not guilty for the aggravated battery charge he was accused of, and he was found guilty for both of the criminal mischief charges.

Sierra Chapman, daughter of Jeffrey Chapman, told News Channel 8 she was disheartened by Friday’s verdict.

“Regardless of what … the verdict was. It really doesn’t change my life in any way because my father’s already dead,” she said. “However, I did just want to see a little more justice for the state of Florida. And so that these monsters weren’t able to commit their heinous act again.”…
