Hillsborough County deputies are working a deadly mystery after a car with two gunshot victims was found in a ditch early yesterday in Ruskin. The male driver was later pronounced dead at a hospital, while an adult female passenger survived and was taken to a hospital in stable condition. The first 911 call that brought deputies out pointed them to the Apollo Beach area as detectives tried to piece together what happened.
According to a press release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the 911 Dispatch Center received a call at 1:19 a.m. The call was later pinpointed to the 5000 block of White Chicory Drive in Apollo Beach. When deputies arrived, they found a vehicle in a ditch along 19th Avenue Northeast in Ruskin with two people suffering from gunshot wounds. The release states that the adult male driver was transported to a hospital and pronounced deceased, while the adult female passenger was transported in stable condition.
“This remains an active investigation,” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said, adding that the Public Affairs Office will provide updates as they are available. The agency listed a public affairs phone number and email in the release for both media questions and tips. Detectives continued working the scene early Sunday and have not released information on any suspects or a possible motive.
