A Florida man has been indicted on federal drug charges after his 1-year-old’s near-fatal fentanyl overdose sparked a joint investigation between local and federal authorities, officials said.
Rayshawn Smith, 31, of St. Petersburg, was being investigated by Pinellas Park detectives when the child overdosed on Nov. 13, the police department said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tampa, the child was under the sole care of Smith at the time. The infant’s near-death experience sparked a joint investigation between the Pinellas Park Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, the police department said…
