One of Madeira Beach’s local gems has made its full – and grand – return. Saltwater Hippie, the combo beach bar, surf shop, kitchen and live music venue, is now open at 15045 Madeira Way. The grand opening of the new location took place on March 28, completing a move that had been two years in the works and was stalled by 2024 hurricane damage.
It’s a welcome return for the Madeira Beach favorite, which has developed a devoted following since debuting its brand in 2015 and opening a retail shop in 2017. Owner Jeri Davis then opened The Brass Captain next door in 2018, in what is now the new and renovated home of Saltwater Hippie Beach Bar. Through covid, hurricanes, and some tough dealings with developers, Saltwater Hippie has managed to survive every bump in the road since then. It’s a fitting example of local resilience.
Upon its return, Saltwater Hippie re-joins the ranks of Pinellas County’s top beach bars and top dive bars alike. It was even once voted among America’s top 10 dive bars, and it’s an honor they are proud to revel in. Now, the full experience is back, with live music, sports on TV, cold beers and cocktails, and smoked meats.
If you need an excuse to stop by, we recommend Wing Wednesday at Saltwater Hippie, which includes $1 bone-in wings straight from the smoker or a 1/2 pound of boneless wings for $10. Anything from the smoker is generally a good choice, and the entirely new kitchen gives them the capacity to churn out the good stuff all night long.
