If you’ve been following I Love the Burg for long, it’s no surprise that we are local library super fans and supporters of all things books and reading. Naturally, seeing the calendar alert that April 19-25 is National Library Week caught our attention. Now is the time to celebrate all of our wonderful public libraries in Pinellas County.
However, we thought to ourselves, everyone already knows about the whole libraries and books thing, right? Get a card, get books, go home happy. Sure, you know that already. We all saw Matilda. But did you know about the next step? It’s the “yes, and?” of having a library card, and it has nothing to do with returning your books on time (though you should always try to be timely!).
We don’t say this often, but let’s put the books down for a second, because those aren’t the only free things you get with your library card. Not even close. Just as there is an entire world to explore inside a book, there’s an entire world to explore in St. Pete and throughout Pinellas County, and your library card gives you access to an insane amount of cool stuff, fun experiences, helpful programs, personal services, and public facilities. Don’t have yours yet? Find a library near you or register online here…
