TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A puppy that was kicked and thrown onto asphalt multiple times in an incident caught on camera has died, according to Hillsborough County officials.
“Despite the tireless efforts of our dedicated veterinary staff, the Pet Resource Center is saddened to share that the abused dog brought into our care passed away during surgery Tuesday,” a spokesperson for the county said in a statement Wednesday.
On April 30, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office charged Imania Davis, 33, of Tampa, with six counts of aggravated animal cruelty. She was accused of throwing and kicking a small stray dog in her neighborhood, leaving it with a broken leg and bleeding from its nose.
Despite there being numerous witnesses in the busy neighborhood, no one called 911 to report the abuse. An HCSO employee monitoring the agency’s Eye on Crime camera feeds happened to see the incident as it unfolded.
The dog, described as a male Maltese puppy, was found laying on the asphalt, visibly shaking. It was taken to the Pet Resource Center for emergency veterinary care, and was expected to be available for adoption after it recovered…
