Newberg-Dundee Bypass Trail project hits milestone

A milestone in the effort to construct a trail connecting Newberg and Dundee is well underway this week.

Crews from Salem contractor Emery & Sons Construction have begun installing large steel girders that will support a 670-foot foot bridge that will span the Hess Creek floodplain adjacent to the northeastern end of the Newberg-Dundee bypass. It represents the first of two lengthy bridges on the project; the second will cross the Chehalem Creek drainage.

Installation of the girders is just the latest step in the herculean effort to create a nearly mile-and-a-half path for pedestrians and cyclists to travel unencumbered between the bypass at Highway 219 on the east to Rogers Landing in the west in the first phase of the project. Future phases will see the path continue on to Eighth Street in Dundee…
