Newberg gallery pays homage to our feathered friends

A Newberg gallery has begun showcasing art celebrating the many birds that call Oregon home.

Art Elements Gallery’s current exhibit, “Birds of a Feather,” touts the works of five artists, “all depicting the compelling beauty and playfulness of birds in the Pacific Northwest,” a release said. “These delightful, feathered friends are essential to the ecosystems here in Oregon and around the world. They are also a wonderful source of inspiration to our artists.”

The artists — who work in paint, ceramics, wood and other media — include Liisa Rahkonen, Molly Reeves, Sandy Visse, Mark Terry and Christine Joy Swanson.

A reception for the artists is slated for 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 27 at the gallery, 601 E. First St. Charcuterie and sparkling wine refreshments will be served. The exhibit continues through March 23.

“The featured artists will be present for this event to meet guests and talk about their latest collection of artworks,” the release added.

Keeping the bird-centered theme, the gallery has pledged to donate 5% of sales from the show to the Prescott Bluebird Recover Project, a nonprofit organization that since the 1970s has been dedicated to the recovery, restoration and enhancement of the western bluebird in Yamhill and four other Oregon counties.
