West Linn-Wilsonville School Board approves 13 members of new educational equity advisory committee

Following the passing of Oregon Senate Bill 732 in 2021, school districts statewide were mandated to implement an Educational Equity Advisory Committee by fall 2025.

The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board voted to approve the appointments of the 13 inaugural members for the school district’s first iteration of this new committee during the Jan. 22 meeting.

“Prior to this committee we already had a district equity committee that had representatives from every school, and we had a parent equity advisory committee. Those will now go away so we don’t have redundancy. Instead, we’ll have this 13-member committee that includes parents, students and staff. What will remain are school equity committees that we already had in place,” said Superintendent Kathy Ludwig.

The committee will meet once a month and work for the rest of this school year at setting the norms and goals for the committee long term. Next school year, the committee will set goals for the year and start to establish norms and practices for the new committee.
