Hazel Jean Platt

October 22, 1944 to January 15, 2024 – Hazel was born October 22, 1944 to Arthur & Loretta Brandt in Wadena, Minnesota.

The oldest of 5 children, Hazel grew up on the family farms. In 1957, the family relocated to a farm outside Jefferson, Oregon. Hazel liked to tell the story of riding from Minnesota to Oregon in the back of the farm truck and taking off layers of clothing the farther west they travelled. Hazel graduated from Jefferson High School and Oregon Technological Institute (now Oregon Institute of Technology) earning a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology. In 1969, she met the love of her life, Dallas Platt. They married February 14, 1970, at Zion Lutheran Church in Glendale, California. In 1975, the family moved to property outside Canby, Oregon where she lived the rest of her life. She worked as a Medical Technologist first at Gresham Community Hospital and then at Mt. Hood Medical Center until she retired.

Hazel was an avid cook and gardener, growing much of the food that she prepared. She loved animals and over the years had chickens, goats, ducks, geese, pigs, cattle, rabbits, a pony, cats, and dogs on her mini farm. She was blessed with four children and eight grandchildren and loved having everyone over for weekly family dinners. She was very active in her church, Hope Lutheran in Woodburn, and was known to cook large meals for the congregation. She loved being a grandma and hated to be cold. She passed away unexpectedly while feeding her beloved chickens.
