Mt. Angel Volksfest returns this weekend, introduces sausage eating contest with prizes

Mt. Angel Volksfest, celebrating German sausage with a sausage eating contest, live entertainment and more, returns this weekend inside the Mt. Angel Festhalle.

The festival has been an annual family-friendly event since 2011. This year the festival is holding its first sausage eating contest, with cash prizes for the top three finishers. Registration has filled for the event.

Contest participants will receive free entry into the event, a competition T-shirt, Volksfest hat pin and a pack of Volks sausage. Contestants will have three minutes to eat as many sausage links as possible. First place takes home $300, a commemorative trophy and pint glass; second place $150 and a Volksfest wine glass; and third place gets $50 and a Volksfest wine glass.

Other activities include face painting, balloon artistry and Volkswalks, which is the festival’s version of a cakewalk. In the Volkswalk, folks can win festival merchandise, beer tokens, sausage packs and more. They will happen throughout the weekend during band breaks.
