A 56-year-old Dallas man died Thursday during a corn meal feed incident at a dairy farm south of Corvallis.
Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident around 2:45 p.m.
They found David Breyman III, 56, unconscious, not breathing, and without a pulse.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident involved a truck carrying 27 tons of corn meal feed. Breyman was alone and in the process of unloading the feed by using the trailer’s unloading mechanism.
Deputies said it appears the feed caused the gate to swing open, pushing and pinning Breyman against the barn wall.
A farmworker nearby heard Breyman yell, used their phone to call for help, and shut off the trailer unloading mechanism to stop it from piling up more feed.
Deputies and witnesses on the scene attempted lifesaving efforts but were unsuccessful.
Corvallis Fire Department personnel arrived soon after and were able to assist in getting Breyman unpinned by removing part of the wall.
According to the sheriff’s office, Breyman was working for a trucking and feed company based out of Polk County at the time of the incident but did not name the business.
