Salem’s Traffic Team is investigating a pedestrian fatality that occurred on February 8, 2024. The accident happened at the intersection of Mission ST and Hawthorne AV SE, where a car struck a pedestrian. Emergency responders pronounced the victim, David Henten Stockam, dead at the scene.

The driver, 69-year-old Daniel Carmona, left the scene but later contacted the police. He is cooperating with the investigation. No arrests or citations have been issued related to the incident.

The accident site was closed for about four hours for investigation. Initially reported as a hit-and-run, the report was corrected when the driver contacted the police.
