Third Street Books, situated at 320 NE 3rd Street, is marking its 20th anniversary. The bookstore, under the ownership of Sylla McClellan, has been a community fixture since 2004. Despite economic challenges such as the 2008 recession and the Covid pandemic, McClellan maintains that the demand for books has stayed steady. She also acknowledges the role of technology in enhancing her business operations, particularly in book ordering and distribution.

Throughout the years, Third Street Books has undergone notable changes. A significant change was the relocation to a new premise in 2015. The bookstore is now housed in a building owned by McClellan. Although smaller, the new location has allowed for an expanded inventory, thanks to efficient space utilization and a more strategic approach to book purchasing.

The bookstore carries a diverse range of genres to cater to various reader preferences. It also stocks Bibles, Christian inspiration books, puzzles, cards, and gifts. McClellan’s aim is for Third Street Books to serve as a community bookstore, with its offerings reflecting the community’s reading tastes.
