Lebanon firefighters respond to two-alarm blaze that destroyed shop building

LEBANON, Ore. – A shop building and vehicle parked nearby were destroyed in a two-alarm blaze on Sunday evening, according to the Lebanon Fire District. Fire officials said that they responded on the evening of February 11 to a structure fire in the 29800 block of Santiam Terrace Road. Responding firefighters arrived to find a 40-by-60-foot shop building fully involved in fire, the district said. Authorities said that after firefighters started their initial attack, a second alarm was called by the incident commander that dispatched additional water tenders to the scene from outside agencies. Firefighters instigated a defensive attack strategy due to the amount of fire and collapse within the building, fire district officials said. Lebanon fire officials said that propane tanks and stored ammunition inside the building could be heard exploding but there were no reported injuries. An estimated total of 60,000 gallons of water and six water tenders were used to extinguish the fire and the homeowners lost everything that was stored inside the building along with a vehicle that was parked just outside of it, authorities said. Fire officials said the homeowners also lost items stored in a nearby 40-foot Conex container.
