Readers respond: Bill skimps on affordable housing

Should we be thrilled that the plan to expand urban growth boundaries for housing requires just 30% of the resulting new houses to be affordable? (“Gov. Tina Kotek urges lawmakers to act on housing production bill,” Feb. 9). That means 70% of those houses will most likely be priced over $500,000 – probably way over. Are we really thinking people living on the street will be helped by that? The percentages should be reversed, at the very least! Even better would be using a similar investment to build fill-in housing close to jobs and public transportation.
