Dirty Delight: Ground broken for Molalla Police station

A pile of shovels and plenty of willing hands to wield them turned the first bits of earth on Friday, Aug. 2, that will eventually conclude with the opening of a new police station in Molalla in the not-too-distant future.

Molalla city councilors, city staffers, the PAC committee, and others involved with the passing of the $16 million bond in the May 21 primary, as well as the merely curious, stopped by the site of the old Molalla Bowl at 150 Grange Ave. to break ground on the new project.

The Molalla City Council gave its okay to more than $8 million in bond expenditures on May 7 to get the project rolling.

The police bond measure had a bit of a wild ride to passage as its lead dwindled to single digits after having a 50-vote lead as of the first results on election night. However, the lead held and would eventually see the bond measure pass by a 935-929 count.

The Aug. 2 groundbreaking was a celebration of all the hard work that went into passing the measure, as well as the hard work to come in getting the facility built.
