Salem woman who ran over ex-boyfriend takes manslaughter plea

A Salem woman pled guilty Friday to manslaughter in the second degree constituting domestic violence after driving over her former partner in the parking lot of Woodmansee Park in 2022.

Branda Myshelle Myers, 31, was arrested in August 2022 after running over her ex-boyfriend, Vince Edward Fouts, while their three children were present. Myers and Fouts, 38, had met at Woodmansee Park to discuss a custody dispute.

When an argument escalated, Myers “used her vehicle to run over Fouts several times,” according to a news release. Fouts died at the scene.

Myers will be sentenced on Aug. 15. The maximum penalty for the crime, which is a high-level felony, is 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.

Myers originally pled not guilty to murder in the second degree in September 2022.

Her Friday plea change was the result of a settlement conference and an amended indictment, which states that she “unlawfully and recklessly” caused Fouts’ death. The original indictment described the death as intentional.
