Salem man arrested, charged in bank robbery

Salem Police arrested a 63-year-old man who is accused of robbing a bank Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to the Washington Federal Bank at 2955 Broadway St. NE at 3:50 p.m. Aug. 9 after employees reported a man identified as Bernardino Muniz threatened a bank teller, demanded money and displayed a handgun, according to a statement from the department. The bank teller complied and the suspect fled.

A Salem Police SWAT team arrested Muniz at 9:30 p.m. outside his residence, according to the statement. Officers conducted a warrant search and discovered evidence of the crime.

Muniz was being held in Marion County Jail and was arraigned Monday on first degree robbery charges.
