I-5 now open after lengthy closure due to crash Thursday morning

As of noon, Interstate 5 southbound was reopened after being closed Thursday morning due to a major crash.

At one point all lanes of the highway in both directions were shut down early on Thursday, Aug. 22 due to a crash near the Donald Road interchange. Four vehicles were involved in the crash, Oregon State Police spokesperson Jolene Kelley said in an email.

Oregon Department of Transportation spokesperson David House said I-5 southbound was closed continuously Thursday morning, and traffic slowed in the northbound lanes as well. He said the northbound lanes were briefly closed for emergency responders to access the crash site.

Kelley said in an email that the initial call for the crash came in at 5:29 a.m. on Thursday morning. She added that the incident started in the northbound lane before the vehicles traveled through the cables to the southbound lane.

One person was flown to the hospital. Whether or not there were fatalities is unknown, Kelley said in the email.
