Singer/songwriter Roy Zimmerman to perform in McMinnville

A musician described as both satirical and brilliant by peers and fans alike will return to McMinnville in October.

Singer/songwriter Roy Zimmerman will appear live in concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Red Lion Inn, 2535 N.E. Cumulus Ave. The concert is co-sponsored by the Yamhill County Democrats and Progressive Yamhill, who suggest a $25 donation or whatever attendees can afford.

“Roy Zimmerman writes funny, socially conscious songs,” a release said. “He’s sung these songs on stages, screens and airwaves for over 30 years, bringing laughter and encouragement to progressive-minded people across the nation.”

Zimmerman’s songs, the release said, tend to lean toward progressive themes and an eye for political theater.

“Roy’s songs, at turns heartfelt and hilarious turn our hearts, minds and ears toward the social justice battles yet to be won,” the release said. “His motto (is) ‘Sing. Laugh. Defend Democracy.’”

Zimmerman co-writes his songs with wife Melanie Harby and together the pair have released 11 albums of “tasteful satire.” Their latest release, “This Machine: The Best of Roy Zimmerman,” is a double album. The couple is working on two new albums as well: “Roadmap” and “Have Mercy.” Visit www.roy.zimmerman.com for more information.
