Mark Wilk is running unopposed for Woodburn City Council

Mark Wilk, the current Ward 2 city councilor, is seeking a full term on the council.

Wilk was appointed to the council in June 2023 to finish the remaining 18 months of Ali Swanson’s term. Swanson moved out of town and resigned her position last summer.

A familiar face in Woodburn, Wilk has been a resident for 28 years. He recently retired from a career in nonprofit law, having worked with the Legal Aid Services of Oregon and the Oregon Law Center. Before his role as a city councilor, Wilk also served on the Woodburn Downtown Association.

“I love the diversity here in Woodburn, and I love the size,” Wilk said. “And, for a city this size, we have a lot of things going on. The city government is very active in providing opportunities for the residents here, and we’re a hub for northern Marion County.”

Looking forward to his first full term as councilor, Wilk wants to help the efforts to expand Woodburn’s urban growth boundary, specifically for industrial and commercial use.

“Our goal is to basically make Woodburn a place where it’s not just a commuter town where everybody leaves town to go to work, but where we have good paying jobs with benefits and health care right here in Woodburn,” Wilk said.
