We’ve been told that there are currently no plans for tolling either I-5 or I-205. However, we all know that tolling will become a part of our daily reality if we don’t continue to stand up strong against it.
Tolling is going to be presented as a solution to the traffic congestion we continue to face in the Metro area. However, it will actually make the problem worse.
Here in Wilsonville, tolling could have a tremendous negative impact on the daily lives of our citizens. Being adjacent to both I-5 and I-205 means that drivers hoping to avoid tolls are going to be likely to seek alternate routes on our local streets. It already takes too long to get from one side of town to another. Tolls would only add to this already unbearable congestion.
It’s up to our elected mayor and city councilors to ensure that our city firmly opposes any and all tolling schemes. I’m confident that as Wilsonville’s next mayor, Glenn Lancaster will take the lead against tolling.
