Wildfire closure reduced in Jefferson Wilderness, expanded near Mount Bachelor

A wildfire closure was reduced in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness area while another was expanded in the Mount Bachelor area on Thursday heading into what should be a nice weekend in the Central Cascade mountains.

Here’s what to know.

Mount Jefferson Wilderness closure area reduced

The 200-acre Bingham Fire , located near Marion Forks, saw its containment grow to 65% on Thursday, which allowed fire teams to reopen some land that had been closed.

The reopened areas included Pamelia Lake Trail and Trailhead, Pine Ridge Trail and Trailhead, Blue Lake Trail and Grizzly Peak Trail. Highway 22 and the Pacific Crest Trail through the Mount Jefferson Wilderness remained open.

The most notable area to remain closed included the Marion Lake Trail and Trailhead. However, it’s possible to hike to the popular lake from the south, if a person enters from a different trailhead. Other trails still closed included: Bingham Ridge Trail and Trailhead, Independence Rock Trail and Trailhead and Lake of the Woods Trail.
