Woodburn City Council approves $5,000 scholarship program for high school artists

There is a new opportunity in town for young Woodburn artists.

The Woodburn City Council has approved the 2025 Visual Arts Scholarship Program for graduating seniors at Woodburn High School.

The scholarship program was created this year by the Public Arts and Mural Committee. At the Oct. 28 meeting, the councilors unanimously approved using the city’s general fund to support the program.

“I’m really pleased to see the embracing of our students. There are some extremely talented young people in our school district,” said the Woodburn Economic Development Director Jamie Johnk. “I think this is a great opportunity to really connect the city and our school district in a project that’s really heartfelt both by the public arts and murals committee and the art teachers and representatives of our committee from the school district.”

This past summer, the arts and murals committee, which funds various art projects around the city, was thinking of ways to support young artists in Woodburn. After much discussion, the scholarship program was born.
