Give n’ Gobble, one of Washington County’s premiere Thanksgiving running (and walking) turkey trots, returns to Sherwood for its 18th year.
The annual event, which draws family and friends to Sherwood, not only provides participants with a fun morning of burning off calories before Thanksgiving meals but also brings in money for Helping Hands, a Sherwood-based food bank.
This year’s event, which includes a 5K walk, 5K run or 10K run loop, is set for 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at Sherwood Middle School, 16956 S.W. Meinecke Road.
Give n’ Gobble proceeds go to cover Helping Hands’ annual expenses as well as providing funding for the organization’s Backpack Meals for Kids program, which provides weekend meals for at-risk children in Sherwood elementary schools, according to organizers.
Over the years, Give n’ Gobble has raised almost $500,000 and collected 100,000 pounds of food donations for the nonprofit group.
“We love the Give n’ Gobble and are excited about this year’s event,” Gerry Edy, Helping Hands director, said in a statement. “Thanks to the Give n’ Gobble we are also able to provide fresh produce and other perishable food items to our families which are so important for growing children…we couldn’t do what we do without this event and continued community support.”
