The City of Canby has been debating which direction it wants to go in terms of legal counsel moving forward.
After the city lawyer moved on, the council was faced with a decision about how to proceed. It has taken a few months, but the council agreed to a contract with the law firm of Beery, Elsner and Hammond for legal services at its Nov. 6 meeting.
“They’ve been serving out our legal firm, if you will, for the last couple of months on an interim basis,” explained Mayor Brian Hodson. “We went from a single individual on the city staff to exploring if there would be another way of handling that.”
Hodson said the city sent out “request for proposals” and had several firms express interest. But in the end, the council decided to make their relationships with Beery, Elsner and Hammond a more permanent arrangement.
“We just decided to continue our relationship with Beery, Elsner and Hammond for our needs moving forward,” said Hodson. “We confirmed that at our last meeting, we’ll be partnering with them for the city’s legal needs.”
