A Woodburn man died Saturday morning in Yamhill County after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 18.
Oregon State Police said a preliminary investigation indicated Giovanni Zamora, 22, lost control of his Acura CL while driving eastbound near milepost 58. The Acura drifted off the right side of the highway, overcorrected into the oncoming lane and was hit head-on by a Toyota Avalon going westbound, police said in a news release Tuesday.
Zamora was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.
Highway 18 was impacted for about 4 hours and police were still investigating the crash as of Tuesday. Speed was being considered a primary contributor, police said.
A GoFundMe for Zamora’s family had raised more than $6,000 as of Tuesday. Zamora was the father of a 2-year-old boy and had a girlfriend of four years, according to the GoFundMe. His family is raising money for his funeral expenses, girlfriend and child.
