Election 2024: Canby seems set, still a race in Molalla

Just about everything is settled in local council and mayoral races – but not quite.

There’s still plenty to be decided in Molalla as the battle for the third open city council spot is a drag race right now. After the Nov. 12 ballot count release, Darci Lightner led Martin Bartholomew by two votes. The next tally release is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 19., with a final release on Nov. 27.

It looks like the race for the final spot in Molalla is going to go down to the wire.

In Canby, Brian Hodson will be sworn in for his sixth term as mayor, while Traci Hensley, Jason Padden, Daniel Stearns and likely Paul Waterman will make up the rest of the city council.

Stearns and Waterman have been in a close one for the final, two-year term, that’s available on Canby City council. Waterman has a 95 vote margin right now, which would seem to be too much to overcome.

In Molalla, Scott Keyser won reelection as mayor and will be joined on council by Eric Vermillion, Doug Gilmer and the winner between Lightner and Bartholomew.
