Representatives from the city of Woodburn will be headed to Washington, D.C. this upcoming weekend to request support and funding for improvements to Settlemier Park.
Park improvements
Settlemier Park is in the town’s epicenter, just a few blocks from the Woodburn Public Library and downtown. The park features a large grassy area, picnic tables, a small playground and skate park.
Woodburn Mayor Frank Lonergan, one of the people representing the city this upcoming weekend, says that the park improvements would include a new universal playground, new picnic shelters and outdoor gathering areas, new sports courts and a remodel of the park’s barriers to increase accessibility.
According to the city, the park improvements will help generate economic and community benefits by revitalizing downtown and boosting economic growth, increasing foot traffic and support local businesses.
The total project cost will be $2 million, and the city plans to request $850,000 from the House Appropriations Committee through the Housing and Urban Development Economic Development Initiatives program. According to the city, U.S. Rep. Andrea Salinas has already selected and advanced the project.
