The race is on to gather enough resources to make sure that families and children in need in the Canby area have a joy-filled Christmas.
The annual Kiwanis Canby Community Food & Toy Drive is running full throttle with an eye towards helping neighbors who live in the Canby School District with toys for kids and grocery gift cards for families.
This 66-year tradition has undergone some changes in the last couple of years, but the goal is the same – bring joy to those who need it. A year ago, the drive helped about 500 families and 1,100 kids in Canby have a brighter holiday.
This year, Kiwanis needs more financial help than usual for the event. The Kiwanis Thrift Store, which provides most of the funding for the drive, was hard-hit by ODOT reconstruction along Highway 99E. That has taken a big financial bite out of the normal fundraising efforts for the drive.
The community can support food expenses of the drive by making credit card donations via the Kiwanis Club of Canby website, canbykiwanis.org; by using the QR code on toy barrels around town; or by sending a check to Canby Kiwanis Foundation (F&T), P.O. Box 1004, Canby, OR 97013, Tax ID 93-1322729.
