A Newberg contractor has indicated it will appeal a considerable fine it received after a state agency determined it repeatedly exposed its employees to falling while on the job.
According to report recently released by the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA), View Top Construction LLC was fined $135,407 for “repeatedly violating requirements to protect its employees from work-related hazards” as it “did not ensure workers were protected from falls of six feet or more to a lower level by using a protection system.”
OSHA explained that falls are one of the leading causes of deaths at construction sites and that penalties meted by the agency increase exponentially when contractors repeatedly violate the law.
“When employers assign work to be done at heights, they must protect their employees from fall hazards,” OSHA administrator Renée Stapleton said in the release. “It is a commitment required by law. It is never an option. And workers have a right to work safely.”
