A couple familiar to many longtime Newberg residents have joined forces to pen a book encouraging folks to slow down and embrace their spirituality.
“An Invitation to Slow: Resist the Speed of Now, Make Space for Quiet and Cultivate an Intentional Life,” is the latest work of Mark McMinn and Lisa Graham McMinn. The couple will read from and sign the books from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at Chapters Books and Coffee in Newberg.
Mark McMinn is a licensed psychologist and professor emeritus at George Fox University, where he taught in the 1980s and 1990s before leaving for Wheaton College in 1993. He returned to GFU in 2006 before retiring in 2020, although he maintains a private psychology practice. Lisa McMinn is a sociologist, writer-in-residence at George Fox and a licensed spiritual director practicing in the Newberg area. The pair live on a small farm outside of Newberg, where they raise dwarf dairy goats and grow berries, apples and pears.
Both have written books in the past, but “An Invitation to Slow” is a rare collaborative effort intended to counteract the busyness of modern life.
