‘It wasn’t glamorous, but it had to be done’: Woodburn firefighters return from battling Palisades blaze

After 18 days tackling the devastating Palisades fire, Woodburn’s fire crew is back home.

Three weeks ago, the Oregon State Fire Marshal mobilized 21 strike teams of 370 firefighters to aid fire crews fighting the multiple fires in Southern California. Marion County sent two strike teams and 10 engines to the Palisades fire, which burned 23,400 acres and destroyed or damaged more than 6,000 homes.

Four members of the Woodburn Fire District, Lt. Joseph Jacobucci and firefighter engineers Robb Gramzow, Raul Garza and Dan Agee deployed with the Marion County team to the Palisades. The Woodburn fire crew arrived in Los Angeles on the evening of Jan. 9 and quickly got to work the next day…
