There’s already been fan rejoicing over the fact that “The Goonies,” the much-loved adventure movie about a group of kids in Astoria who search for pirate treasure, is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2025.
But it turns out that another Oregon-filmed movie, one with a boatload of Oscars and more adult themes, is also marking a significant birthday this year.
“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” adapted from a novel by the longtime Oregon-based author Ken Kesey, takes place in a mental institution. The people there include patients with varying degrees of illness, as the rebellious Randle McMurphy (played by Jack Nicholson) attempts to shake up the authoritarian Nurse Ratched (played by Louis Fletcher)…
