PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Highway 99W in Sherwood is closed through the weekend for the installation of a new pedestrian bridge.

The closure began 9 p.m. Friday, affecting the highway between Southwest Edy Road and Southwest Sunset Boulevard.
City officials say the 900-foot bridge will span over the highway, connecting Sherwood High School and the YMCA, improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
They add that three full-weekend road closures will be needed between now and May to complete all spans of the bridge, which is set to open this fall.
For now, drivers are urged to plan ahead as flaggers direct traffic around the current closure…
