PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — By the start of next month, Oregon Health and Science University patients using UnitedHealthcare could no longer be covered by the insurer.
OHSU, along with its partners at the Hillsboro Medical Center and Adventist Health Portland, will terminate its contract with the insurance network on March 31 — unless both parties can reach an agreement in their ongoing negotiations.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the insurer claimed the hospital system’s proposal to increase commercial plans by 36% and Medicare Advantage plans by 15% within the next two years “is not sustainable.” The company claimed the price hike would make OHSU the most costly healthcare system in its Portland Medicare Advantage network.
“Agreeing to OHSU’s proposal would also significantly drive-up premiums and out-of-pocket costs for consumers, as well as the cost of doing business for employers, impacting their ability to offer affordable health care coverage for their employees,” UnitedHealthcare said on its website …
