Teen stabbed at Salem park, suspect at large

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — The Salem Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in connection to a stabbing incident that happened at Highland Park last week.

On Monday, March 3, around 3:30 p.m., a 19-year-old man was at the park and then approached by a stranger, who police said stabbed him twice then ran away.

The victim was taken to Salem Health and he sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

“Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect who was seen running on the Highland Elementary School property which is across from the park to the east,” Salem police said in a press release.

Detectives uncovered surveillance video of the suspect, described as a man of average height with dark hair and a moustache. The man was initially seen wearing a dark hooded Oregon State University Sweatshirt, a dark head covering and gray gloves, all of which he took off while fleeing, police said.
