Portland, OR – A Flood Watch is in effect for much of western and southern Oregon from Saturday evening through Sunday night as an atmospheric river brings heavy rainfall to the region. The National Weather Service warns that excessive rain, combined with rising snow levels, could lead to significant flooding in low-lying areas, urban centers, and near rivers and streams.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, rain rates could reach 0.20 to 0.40 inches per hour in parts of the Willamette Valley, Coast Range, and Cascade foothills. Cities including Eugene, Corvallis, and Lincoln City are expected to see heavy rain through Sunday night. Flooding may impact roads, homes, and infrastructure, with an increased risk of landslides in areas with steep terrain.
Meanwhile, in southern Oregon, the National Weather Service in Medford has issued a Flood Watch for Curry, Douglas, and Jackson counties, as well as western Siskiyou County in California. Rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are forecast for coastal and mountainous areas, with 1 to 3 inches expected in the Rogue Valley.
