A “suspicious substance” discovered Tuesday at Deer Ridge Correctional Institution in Madras caused a staff member to be briefly hospitalized, according to the Oregon Department of Corrections.
At about 2:20 p.m. security staff were informed of suspected contraband and conducted a search of the Disciplinary Segregation Unit, according to an ODOC news release and agency spokesperson Amber Campbell. A corrections corporal discovered an unknown substance and the area was secured and evacuated, the release said.
