19-year-old charged with driving 100+ mph in construction zone on I-5 in Salem

SALEM Ore. (KPTV) – A Salem man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly speeding over 100 miles per hour on Interstate 5 through a construction zone, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 7 a.m., a deputy said they saw a Mitsubishi Eclipse racing south at 96 miles per hour on I-5 near Market Street. The Eclipse was weaving between lanes and speeding around other cars, MCSO said.

The deputy turned on his lights to pull the Eclipse over, but the driver sped away, accelerating to 107 miles per hour. Surrounded by morning rush-hour traffic and approaching a construction zone, the deputy decided to end the chase, MCSO said…
