Tragedy struck late Friday afternoon on South Kropf Road in Clackamas County when two vehicles collided, leading to the death of one driver and injuries for two others, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. At just past 5 p.m., deputies arrived at the crash site near South Gibson Road to find a scene of devastation.
A 2017 Chevrolet Suburban lay overturned in a ditch, its driver, a 37-year-old Woodburn woman, and her young son were already being attended to by first responders for what were later described as non-life-threatening injuries, the chaos that emanates from such accidents was palpable as firefighters and medical personnel worked tirelessly amid the mangled vehicles and the confused aftermath of the sudden vehicular violence. Not far away, the wreck of a 2012 Chevrolet Express work van bore the brunt of this unfortunate event where Tyler Ryan Sahnow, a 40-year-old man from Beaverton, succumbed to his injuries, the efforts of firefighters to save him notwithstanding.
The Sheriff’s Office’s CRAFT team, specialists in crash reconstruction and forensic analysis, were promptly on the scene to investigate the calamity that had unfolded, their preliminary reports indicating a grim possibility that the van might have strayed into the opposing lane and struck the Suburban head-on.
