Readers respond: Editorial ignores concerns of homeowners

Having just read your editorial, “In a hole on housing, Oregon just keeps digging,” (March 20), my overriding thought is how little regard you have for House Bill 3054 and those of us who own our own floating home in a marina or a unit in a manufactured home park.

Instead, the editorial voices concern for the owners of these facilities. My question is, to what end? If, as you say, you’re all about creating more housing, who is it you’re wanting to house? Is it seniors, young families, singles, first time buyers? Or is it, as I suspect, that ever-shrinking class gainfully employed in professions that keep pace with rising prices and the true cost of living?

Those of us Rep. Pam Marsh is trying to safeguard are homeowners. Unfortunately, though we own our homes, we do not own the space upon which our home sits. The editorial seems to be suggesting our property rights are lesser-than, and I wonder why? Why do you view corporate profits to be more important than an individual’s largest asset as represented by home ownership?…
