Despite suspect’s exoneration, investigators will not reopen famous Oregon murder case

The 1989 murder of Oregon Corrections Director Michael Francke will remain unsolved, despite the Oregon Department of Justice acknowledging that the man convicted of killing him is innocent.

The Oregon State Police, which led the investigation into the 1989 murder, told the Portland Tribune on April 1 that it will not reopen and reinvestigate the case.

“OSP does not intend to reopen the case. During the litigation process, the case was thoroughly reviewed and determined all of the evidence in the case had been appropriately follow-up on. There has been no new evidence revealed for investigative follow-up,” public information officer Capt. Kyle Kennedy wrote in an email…
