Dan Clem’s public service career in Salem spans city government, business leadership, and nonprofit stewardship. As he retires from his role as Executive Director of Union Gospel Mission, Clem reflects on decades of faith-driven leadership grounded in community values and personal conviction.
“Leadership starts with being a servant,” Clem said. His belief is shaped by military service and the community that supported his family during his deployments. That support, he says, sparked a lasting desire to give back—first through the Salem City Council, later as head of the Salem Chamber, and most recently, in nonprofit work serving Salem’s most vulnerable.
